FAQ
- What is Qigong?
-
There are two components to the word qigong: Qi is chi and means life energy and gong means a long period of daily exercise. After you’ve repeated an exercise for 100 days you’ve completed a gong.
Qigong is channelling your life energy to enhance harmony between body and mind.
Living cells are the building blocks of our bodies. Upon dissection of the cell we find a membrane, a nucleus and so on. Dig further and we find atoms, electrons, protons and neutrons. Beyond this level we find energy. According to ancient Chinese Qigong theory this is called the Qi-level. < back - What is the difference between Chi Neng, Yoga and Tai Chi?
-
Chi Neng® Qigong has been derived from several forms of T’ai Chi. Chi Neng, however, is not as complicated and therefore easier to learn.
Yoga is an ancient art from India that works with the chakras (energy centres). Chi Neng® Qigong and yoga both strive for the same goal but whereas yoga consists of a series of body postures, Chi Neng® Qigong is executed in one fluent movement.
Reiki is Japanese for universal (or magical) energy (life force). In Chi Neng® Qigong we use the same energy source but in Reiki it is attained through initiation rather than self cultivation. First and foremost, we practice Chi Neng® Qigong to enhance our own health and vitality.
Chi Neng® Qigong works well in combination with all the above mentioned methods. Especially the results of Reiki are enhanced by practicing Chi Neng® Qigong. < back - Can we all emit Qi to another person?
-
Yes. However, there is a thin line between universal chi and what we call dantien chi. Sometimes it happens that you think you’re emitting universal cQi when in fact you’re giving away your own Qi. As a result you experience fatigue and low energy. You will learn to discriminate between the two.
- Is it necessary for me to read books about Chi Neng?
-
No, Chi Neng® Qigong is about the movements more than anything else. If you are interested in background information you can read the book ‘Chi Neng® Qigong, Meditation in Movement for Westerners’.
When you are enroled for the instructors training you are required to read the book. During the exam you will have to answer ten theoretical questions all of which are derived from the book.
- Do I need to exercise every day at exactly the same time?
-
No, this is not necessary. What is important is that you do the exercise every day. The energy flows through your body in 24 hours. It is imperative that you continue your daily practice to ensure a continuance in energy flow and to prevent blockades to start forming in the organs and meridians.
This is how Chi Neng Qigong prevents disease from forming in the body.
- Can you really learn Chi Neng in one day?
-
Yes. The method was deviced to be very simple and effective because the terminally ill don’t have the time to learn a complicated method. We teach in the same manner as was once done in the Centre. After the workshop you can take a cd or video home with you and continue your practice. After having completed a gong of 100 days the movements will have become a daily habit, like brushing your teeth. During subsequent workshops you will receive personal attention in the form of corrections and tips on how to deepen your Chi Neng® Qigong experience.
- Are all three-day workshops identical?
-
No. Although all exercises of the method are dealt with to provide the students ample time for refining their practice, each workshop is unique in that it deals with specific aspects of the exercises as well as the theory behind it. Each workshop one exercise is put under the microscope. Furthermore, all new developments from China are passed on to us by Patricia van Walstijn.
- Does the same method apply to all diseases?
-
Yes, Chi Neng® Qigong contains exercises which effect all meridians (energy channels). There are specific movements in the Body & Mind that are recommended in case of headache, whiplash, period pains, and so on.
- Does the Centre in China still exist?
-
No, the centre as it was when Patricia van Walstijn first trained there no longer exists. Due to problems with the Falun Gong movement the Chinese government has closed down all places where hundreds of people can congregate, without discriminating between disciplines. Unfortunately the Centre was closed down and all the people were allocated to smaller centres throughout China. The good thing to come out of this is that many teachers went abroad to teach Chi Neng® Qigong, thereby making it a worldwide phenomenon.
- Do I first have painful muscles before I improve?
-
Yes, it is possible. The exercises make you use your body in a different manner so that you assume a healthy body posture. Your muscles are used in a completely different way and also the smaller muscles are trained.
This does not mean that sore muscles are inevitable. Listen to your body and don’t push yourself too much. When complaints persist, please contact your instructor and ask if he or she can watch you do the exercise and give corrections where necessary.
